Our Yarns

Our Yarns

Our yarns are carefully chosen to feature quality and colour and to feel wonderful. We have a broad spectrum of base yarns in different weights that include:

  • The finest Bluefaced Leicester and Merino yarns, sourced within the UK. These yarns are hand dyed by Erica.
  • Other natural yarns include Cashmere, Alpaca, Yak, Camel, sourced within the UK and Europe. These are either dyed by Erica or mill dyed as noted in the product description.
  • The Debonnaire Basic range - a quality 100% merino - spun and mill dyed in Italy.
  • The highest quality Silk yarns – straight, sequinned or beaded. This yarn is hand crafted and dyed to Debonnaire's colour specifications by a small family business in India. Given the handcrafted nature of this yarn, imperfections may occur from time to time.

We also carry yarns which are not available online at this time but featured at our events. Notably these include Blue Heron Rayon Metallic yarns and the Lang Mille Colori Socks & Lace Regular and Luxe lines as well as the Baby Mille Colori yarns. Please contact us (Erica@debonnaireyarns.com) to purchase these yarns or better yet, visit the studio to view our full collection of yarns, patterns and accessories.

Notes on Buying Hand Dyed Yarn

We specialise in hand dyeing artisan yarns in rich, inspiring colours. All yarns are dyed in small batches and we try to keep the colours as consistent as possible. However, as with any artisanal product, variations may occur between (and even within) dye lots. To prevent colour blocking or pooling, you may wish to alternate skeins while knitting. Also, colour spots may be present in some colourways. This is usual with hand dyed yarns and adds to the allure and depth of the knitted fabric.

There are no numbered dye lots. If you purchase more than one skein, we will choose those we would use ourselves for a project. If you would like more than we have in stock or an alternative colour in any base yarn we carry, we are happy to dye your yarn to order. Production should not take more than 10 days.

Please keep in mind that the actual yarn colour may differ from what you see on your monitor. As well, colourways will vary depending on the fibre content of the yarn. If you have any questions, please contact us.

Please try to purchase enough yarn for your project. If you do run out, we will do our best to come up with a solution.

The meterage of the yarn is measured before the yarn is dyed.

Dyes

We use non-toxic, acid- based commercial grade dyes so your yarn will not fade. We strive to thoroughly discharge the dyes in each lot to minimise any impact on the environment. We do not use any harsh chemicals in any step of the dying process.
